K-6 General InformationStudent Achievement
La Sierra Academy believes the best predictor of future success is the day-to-day achievement of students. However, our students are tested to ensure that our curriculum and teaching strategies are supporting academic growth in each child. Our students are tested in the fall so our teachers are given information to shape the curriculum to meet the strengths and weaknesses of their class. We believe this feedback at the beginning of the school year is vital to provide the best education possible.
All our students in grades 3-6 take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) because it is most closely aligned with our curriculum. The results are shared with parents in the fall at parent-teacher conferences and provide a method for the faculty and administration to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the school's curriculum.
our grades 3-6 normally score above grade level in core subjects (reading, writing, and math) and comprehensive total (core subjects plus social studies, science, and information processing).
It should be noted that as a student continues his/her education at La Sierra Academy, his/her test scores normally continue to increase. In junior high, classes normally score one full grade level above the national standard, and in high school one and a half grade levels above the national standard.
Teacher Preparation and Education
All teachers at LSA have met the same educational requirements as required by the State of California for state credentialed teachers.
All our teachers take and pass the California Basic Skills Test (CBEST).
Our church conference office credentials all teachers at LSA.
Over 60% of our teachers hold advanced college degrees in education at the Master's level.
Teachers are supported and encouraged to attend summer school or in-service programs particular to their area of interest.
Instructional Time
The number of instructional minutes that La Sierra Academy K-6 students receive within a school year is equal to or greater than state requirements, as represented in the following chart:

Curriculum
La Sierra Academy K-6 has high academic expectations for all our students. National and North American Division standards have been adopted for math, language arts, reading, history, and science.
We strive to update books in all subject areas with the most recent adoptions aligned to the National and North American Division standards on a timely cycle.
Meeting Students Needs
We look forward to working with enrolled students, recognizing that some may have challenges, or needs that are beyond what we can do to help the student.
Students have been accepted that are presently working below grade and have made effective adjustments to the educational, social, and spiritual program at La Sierra Academy. However, on occasion we recognize that there are some at-risk students that we are unable to educate due to staffing and training. La Sierra Academy has high expectations for all of our students and we believe that students will rise to our high standards.
